Ituverava - portal da cidade
Ituverava, há trinta anos, era a maior cidade na rota Ribeirão-Uberaba, na beira da Anhanguera. Não é mais.
A diversidade agrícola (algodão, soja, feijão, sorgo, milho etc) deu lugar à monocultura da cana-de-açúcar.
As estruras de serviços e do comércio, voltadas para suprir a demanda que a variedade agrícola exigia, foi desmontada (as usinas tem fornecedores próprios, geralmente de outros municípios).
Não há muitas indústrias na cidade (não mais que uma ou duas). Tampouco há usinas de açúcar e ácool no município ituveravense.
A cidade empobreceu.
Os jovens de minha geração (´da década de 1970), em sua maioria, abandonaram-na nos anos 1990, buscando melhores condições de trabalho.
Tendo a conhecido tão viva, é impossível esquecê-la. Por isso, acredito que todos os migrantes ituveravenses a guardem com carinho no coração, não importa onde estejam.
Ituverava, thirty years ago, was the largest city on the route Ribeirão Preto-Uberaba (Anhanguera road). It is not anymore.
The diversity of agriculture (cotton, soy, beans, sorghum, corn, etc) led to the monoculture of sugar cane.
The trade structure, then focused on the variety of agricultural products (aimed to meet the demand that the variety of agricultural products required), was dismantled (alcohol plants use to have their own commercial partners, most os them from other cities).
There are not industries in the city (one or two, if so).
There are nor even sugar and acohol plant at the city's territory.
The city became poorer.
Most of the young people of my generation (1970's) have abandoned it at the 1990, seeking better working conditions.
Since we've known Ituverava so alive, it is impossible to forget it. No matter where we go.
